This Coin was discovered by the U.S. Treasury in 1964, as part of a huge hoard of coins which escaped from being melted in the early 1900's. It is marked in its case as "Uncirculated", but the graders of these coins at the time were said to be quickly hired college students, who knew little about actual coin grading. Technically, none of these coins were actually in circulation, but some of them are in better condition than others. So some coins in cases marked "Uncirculated" may actually be in poorer condition than those in cases not marked as "Uncirculated". In the end, it is the buyer who needs to be the judge of the pristineness (or lack therof) of these coins. This coin has scratches on the woman's cheek (also known as "bag marks" on its face). It also has some light wear to the woman's hair. The obverse shows some light wear to the eagle's breast and wings. Its outer box is in overall good condition, but has the numbers 1884 in grease pencil marked on the side of the box.
