He covered stories in over 120 countries and was the first to have a retrospective book on his career, Eye of the Beholder (1998), a record of his almost three decades behind the lens. He won over 40 major awards including Photographer of the Year (White House Photographers Association) in 1970, 1977, 1982, and 1988.
