Other Notes: The present lot was used in financial institutions throughout the U.S. during wartime to thwart counterfeit monies from entering the banking system. Sold by the U.S. Treasury Department. Francis E. Spinner, 10th Treasurer of the United States, served during active Civil War time, an endorsement in manuscript ink is found on one fraction note that has his portrait.
