This is a wonderful example of the iconic vending machine by the General Merchandise Co., "Smilin' Sam from Alabam, the Salted Peanut Man" is a figural peanut vending machine where you deposit your coin in the slot in his head and pull his tongue to get a full portion of salted peanuts. There is a copy of an original ad in the back of the "Silent Salesman Too" reference book that states this machine was available as a white man, black man, an Indian man, a Chinese man or in polished aluminum. This example has the look of a Chinese man. CONDITION: In original paint with some touch-up, this example has a wonderful aged patina, the look most collectors like for this very desirable vending machine. No decals, and in working order.
