Caleb Gibbs - First Commander of George Washington's Life Guard 1803 Document Signed for Transporting Paul Revere Copper Bolts.
CALEB GIBBS (1748-1818). Revolutionary War Officer; Appointed by General George Washington as the First Commander of the Commander in Chief's Guard (Washington's "Life Guard"), the Unit That Protected General George Washington during the Revolutionary War, serving 1776-1779; Wounded at the Battle of Yorktown in 1781; Remained in the Army after the War.
October 22, 1803-Dated Federal Period, Manuscript Document Signed, "Approved Caleb Gibbs", Boston, Very Fine. A nicely written clean fresh document on laid period paper, that measures 4.5" x 7.25" mounted at its top edge to a heavy stock page measuring 10" x 8" for display. Written at top is a bill from Peter Kennedy to the U.S. Navy Department for "transporting, weighing and piling of Copper bolts from Mr. Revere's furnace at Boston to Charlestown by particular agreement with Major Gibbs. $20-". Below, Peter Kennedy has signed to acknowledge this duplicate receipt of the $20 from Samuel Brown, Naval Agent.
