Large-scale bank counter from the storied Union and New Haven Trust Building, designed by Cross & Cross and opened in 1927. Features a solid mahogany frame in the Empire style, carved with gilt-rubbed shell motifs over Neoclassical reeded and scrolled column legs - the divided interior compartments shielded by a heavy tempered glass top - adorned with a reticulated brass gallery, card holder, and pen stands. C. Early- to Mid-20th Century. Dimensions: H 45.75" x W 80" x D 25.5" Condition: Some joint separation. Mahogany with rich patina; scattered old dings and rubs, losses to gilding. Scratches and scallops to glass. Patination to metal.
