Description
Currier and Ives, United States. Hand-colored lithograph titled "Celebrated Stallion Trio" depicting a cart pulled by two horses while a jocky on another horse runs behind. Signed in plate along the lower right. Subtitled, "Wamba 1:44 1/2 Running. By Waverly. Bud Crook 2:18 1/4 Packing. By Geo. Wilkes. Black Cloud 2:17 1/4 Trotting. By Ashland Chief. The Pride of Meyer's Lake Side Horse Farm, Canton, Ohio. Property of Ed. J. Meyer." There is a "signature" in print in the margins reading "Compliments of Ed. J. Meyer."

Currier and Ives was founded by Nathaniel Currier (American, 1813-1888) in 1835 as "the Grand Central Depot for Cheap and Popular Prints," but changed its name with the addition of James Merritt Ives (American, 1824-1895) in 1857. The company created over 7000 popular lithographs depicting American life until 1907.

Condition
The sheet is unevenly toned. There are tide lines along the lower left and right corners and the upper left corner. There is a small but deep crease in the lower left corner. There appears to be a loss along the upper left corner along with a repair. Some spots of foxing and soiling throughout. The sheet is laid down to another sheet of paper; as such the verso of the print cannot be inspected. There are two pieces affixed to the verso along the upper left and right. The work is not framed.
