CAST IRON EAGLE PLAQUE
America, Circa 1890
Clutching an "E Pluribus Unum" ribband in its beak, and a polychrome Liberty shield and olive branches in its talons. Wonderfully erect head and unfurled wings. Retains some of the original gilding and all the original paint on the shield.
Height 21.5". Width 20".

An almost identical eagle appears in Treasury of American Design and Antiques by Clarence P. Hornung (N.Y.: Harry N. Abrams, Inc.), p. 810.
