Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, he is a plein air landscape painter living in Tuscarora, Nevada. His medium is oil, and he completes his paintings outside, never working from photographs. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Minnesota in 1984 and then studied for three years at the Atelier Le Sueur at Excelsior, Minnesota. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he made two plein-air painting trips to France and from 1989 to 1992 studied figure painting and drawing at the College of the Redwoods at Fort Bragg, California. He has also been Plein Air Instructor at Great Basin College in Elko, Nevada and at the Mendocino Art Center in Mendocino, California and has had one-person exhibits at the Gallery Mendocino as well as several others in California and in France.
