Description
Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 600 to 100 BCE. A strand of 20 hand-carved stone beads of spherical, cylindrical, spool, and discoid shapes. Ancient Mezcala artists used these as necklace beads primarily for the dead. Size of largest: 2.07" L x 1.76" W x 0.60" H (5.3 cm x 4.5 cm x 1.5 cm)
Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966
