Description
An early, free blown fixed globe lantern made for the Concord, Manchester & Lawrence Railroad. This frame has a flat band bail. star-diamond-star vent hole area and 6 point star intakes. It has a double pinch pot for the fount. The globe has applied flanges to both the top and bottom. The top has a factory double wire wrap used to help keep the globe attached to the frame. Notice how perfect the tin snips are on the top assembly. The globe is "Old English" style cutting not uncommon to this type of marking. The Concord Manchester & Lawrence was formed when the Concord Railroad got tired of the Boston & Lowell getting all of the northbound traffic through New Hampshire so the Concord bought out the Manchester & Lawrence to bypass the Boston & Lowell. This was common practice in the mid-1800's. The Concord also bought out the Nashua Acton & Boston for a direct connection to the Fitchburg Railroad.
