Early Brass & Copper Locomotive Stanchions

Item Details

Description

A matched pair of brass and copper stem locomotive stanchions. These "candle sticks" were used for flag signals on locomotives until about 1870. If you look through early loco photos, you'll see these. The consignor included a tag with the story of these being used on the Lehigh Valley Railroad. They stand about 19" tall without the mounting bases. True relics from an early time in railroading.
