ANTIQUE NATIONAL CAST-IRON B. ELDREDGE AUTOMATIC SILENT SEWING MACHINE WITH CASE, cast-iron with black-painted finish having gilt decoration, plate marked "MANUFACTURED FOR / JOHN WANAMAKER / NEW YORK & PHILADELPHIA", having applied "WANAMAKER AUTOMATIC" medallion, numbered "37355", including various accessories, attachments, and instructions in original packaging, housed in original mahogany carrying case with key. National Sewing Machine Co., Belvidere, IL. Late 19th/early 20th century. Case 15" x 9 1/2" x 11 1/2" OA without handle.
Deaccessioned by the Valentine Museum, Richmond, VA to benefit collections care, preservation, and future acquisitions.
Condition
Very good overall condition with some usage wear, scattered losses to gilt decoration and paint flakes/chips, wheel turns with ease, instruction pamphlet with tears and toning, accessories and attachments of unknown completeness, case with wear and other imperfections, lock currently in working order.
