Inserted into a red leather and yellow cloth slip case, raised bands and gilt lettering with internal yellow cloth protective sleeve, recent bookplate inside protective sleeve, first edition with 1848 on both title pages, second issue lacking woodcut on page 336 but with "Mr. Pitt" for "Sir Pitt" reading on page 453, rustic lettering in heading on p.1, nicely preserved 2nd state in original cloth, added engraved frontis with extra engraved title page. Without the suppressed woodcut page 336 and without the Great Hoggarty Diamond advertisement preceding the frontispiece.Early edition of vanity fair, year of the first in 1848, but lacks all the points for the first issue; in the original green cloth binding and in a box; Similarly the engraved title page is dated 1849 in the first book edition. Covers moderately worn with back strip expertly laid down, hinges cracked, contents very good with some wear, title leaf dusted and rubbed.
