Proto-Nazca & Chimu Textile Fragments with Geometric Patterning (2) Ca. 1000-1250 A.D. Size 17 x 15-1/2 inches & 23 x 24 inches. Two different woven textiles, including a section of a stepped mantle border, in red and brown with a beautifully woven interlocking diamond pattern ground. Staining and scattered small losses and fraying. Together with a rectangular panel, depicting a large abstract standing figure wearing a headdress, tiny red fish surround the figure. Lower border of long stepped elements. Several scattered small holes and imperfections. Each sewn to cloth backing. Provenance: Estate of David Sheridan, Branchburg, NJ., acquired 1950s to early 2000s, by descent to family.
