Description
Official copper medal struck in 1821 to celebrate the coronation of King George IV, following the passing of his father George III the previous year. This exceptional high relief obverse portrait of George IV is the work of the Italian engraver Benedetto Pistrucci. The reverse, also by Pistrucci, bears a classically inspired image of George's coronation where he is being crowned by the winged Roman goddess Victoria and attended by Britannia, Hibernia and Scotia.
