Description
Autographed Photograph Loretta Young, black and white photograph promotional photograph from the 1936 movie "Private Number", costarring Robert Taylor. From the estate of Harry and Tai Lachman, inscribed "To Harry and Tai, adoringly Loretta". In silvered wood frame. Young was an American actress. Starting as a child, she had a long and varied career in film from 1917 to 1953. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the film The Farmer's Daughter (1947) and received her second Academy Award nomination for her role in Come to the Stable (1949). Young moved to the relatively new medium of television, where she had a dramatic anthology series, The Loretta Young Show, from 1953 to 1961. The series earned three Emmy Awards, and was re-run successfully on daytime TV and later in syndication. In the 1980s, Young returned to the small screen and won a Golden Globe for her role in Christmas Eve in 1986. Harry Lachman was born in La Salle, Illinois on June 29, 1886. Became a magazine and book illustrator, contributing 4 colour illustrations to the 1907 work John Smith, Gentleman Adventurer by Charles Harcourt Ainslie Forbes-Lindsay. In 1911, he emigrated to Paris where he earned a substantial reputation as a post impressionist painter and was awarded the Légion d'Honneur by the French government. Lachman's interest in motion pictures stemmed from his position as a set designer in Nice, leading to work on Mare Nostrum in 1925. He worked as a director in France and England before settling in Hollywood in 1933. His credits include Down Our Street, Baby Take a Bow, Dante's Inferno, Our Relations, and Dr. Renault's Secret. In 1928 he married Jue Quon Tai. She worked in vaudeville in Portland, Oregon and at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco. She began performing at the Pantages Theatre in April 1915, receiving positive reviews. She attended the Panama–Pacific International Exposition later that year and then went to New York City. She performed in Silks and Satins on Broadway from July 15, 1920 to September 4, 1920. She was billed as performing at the New York Hippodrome in 1925.
