Description

A VERY RARE BRONZE-GILT FIGURE OF SHAKYAMUNI
Originally Siddhartha Guatama, is the founder of Buddhism. The Buddha is well-modelled seated in dhyanasana with his hands in bhumisparsa mudra, wearing a patchwork robe over his left shoulder. The robe is gathered in cascading folds at the figure’s shoulder and the ankles. The rounded face is featured with downcast eyes, and the mouth gently indented at the corners to provide a smiling expression. The face is flanked on either side by long pendulous ear lobes below the hair arranged in tight curls rising to a domed ushnisha, and topped with a lotus bud, backed by an elaborate torana with members of the Kagyu lineage, scrollwork, and floral motifs.
Dimension: L. 22 cm. W. 16 cm. H. 30 cm. Weight 5490 grams.
