Description
China, 960-1279. Well potted with gently rounded flaring sides, molded with a raised border around the interior rim and with a shallow recessed 'finger groove' below the lip on the exterior. Finely painted on the interior in buff-colored slip with a prunus design freely drawn in fluid brushstrokes over the dark chocolate-brown glaze which continues over the reverse, ending in wide arcs above the knife-cut small ring foot to reveal the buff ware.
Of conical form, covered in a dark brown glaze stopping irregularly above the foot to reveal the buff ware. The interior is painted in fluid, buff brushstrokes with branches of plum blossom and a crescent moon above clouds.
Provenance: From a private estate in the United Kingdom.
Condition: Very good condition with old wear and firing flaws, light surface scratches, few minute chips and tiny losses to the foot and base.
