Cart Horse "Gamin" aged 3 by Henri Miloch (1898-1979) signed and inscribed lower right watercolour, graphite and gouache painting on stiff artist's paper, unframed Image: 12 x 9.25 inches, sheet 16.25 x 12.5 inches Charming painting by the highly regarded painter, Henri Miloch. A departure from his usual landscapes, this depicts a horse pulling a cart. The artist has given us the horses name "Gamin" and tells us the horse is three years old. This one is signed. This work forms part of a collection we currently hold by Miloch. It is undated but the body of work we have by this artist spans from the late 1940's to the late 1950's in general. Henri Miloch was born in Trieste (Italy) in 1898 but studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was a member of the Society of French Artists. His life and work was very much centred in Brittany, in north west France, much of his work portrays Breton maritime life in the various ports, and local town observations, especially in the Concarneau area where he worked and exhibited for much of his artistic career. From 1959 he also had a workshop in Tours (Val de Loire). condition report: No tears or creases. The marginal edges outside of the image have some marks and minor corner folds but the image itself is clean and in very good order. Colours are clear and strong.
