Biography from Bonhams California: Felix Bracequemond was born in France, in 1833. He was regarded as a prominent artist in late 19th century France. Felix was a close friend of Manet, Whistler, Corot, Millet, and other well known artists. It is said that Felix Bracquemond is the person who recognized the beauty of Hokusai woodcuts that were used as packing in a shipment of Japanese china. This discovery led to an important change in European art. Felix Bracquemond died in 1914, in France. 11 1/4"H x 9 3/4"W (plate), 20"H x 16"W (mat)
