17C FRENCH CARVED DRAGON THRONE CHAIR WALNUT ARMCHAIR

17th century French walnut throne chair, the back splat bears a heavily carved crowned dragon flanked by matching urns, shells and face masks with acanthus leaf foliate carving throughout, centered with period needle embroidery or fine crimson and forest green ground with back and gold complementing threading, stuffed and cushioned with natural horse hair, burlap and velvet. The acanthus leaf foliate also runs down and across the sweeping arms, apron and legs and stretchers, the seat also lined with similar intricate needle embroidery stuffed with natural horse hair and burlap. This armchair represents a certain type of use of materials and craftsmanship that have long since vanished and for the most part can only be enjoyed in some of the worlds finest museums.

DETAILS:
- SIZE: 32 inches length x 25 inches width x 51 inches height , the seat measuring 28 inches length by 23 inches deep.
- CONDITION: Though the chair is quite sturdy, the seat and its cushioning need to be resprung to support the weight of a person. This antique throne chair is 100% original. It is quite common for pieces of this age to be missing the cushioning entirely and are frequently traded and admired for their unaltered original state.
