Description
Gustave Courbet oil on board. The painting oil on board, represents a night navy, signed in the lower right corner “G. Courbet, measurements 25 x 35.5 cm. It belonged to the illustrious engineer Joaquim Eugenio de Lima, born in Montevideo on September 6, 1845 and died in São Paulo on June 13, 1902. He was a successful engineer who graduated in agronomy in Germany and traveled repeatedly to several European countries. He dedicated himself to the sale of land and consolidated himself in the real estate market, achieving an extremely successful and prosperous financial situation. He executed, built and designed the main avenue of São Paulo-Brasil "Avenida Paulista". He made important donations, such as the land where the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo is today, as well as the Hospital das Clínicas. In his honor today one of the main streets of a noble neighborhood of said city (Alameda Joaquim Eugenio de Lima) is named after him. Joaquín Eugenio de Lima Died on June 13, 1902 in São Paulo, Brazil. I acquired this painting from my great-grandson who also bears the name of his great-grandfather, Don Joaquim Eugenio ?lvarez de Lima, with whom I maintained strong ties of friendship. It should be noted that the great-grandson also has the same name because his great-grandfather imposed a family tradition that all first-born males had the same name. This painting, like other furniture and objects, was part of the decoration of his great-grandfather's house and came as a family heirloom. According to what the great-grandson told us, this painting entered Brazil at the end of the 19th century. Unfortunately, Mr. Joaquim Eugenio ?lvarez de Lima contracted a serious respiratory illness and died in January 2019. To this day I maintain a great relationship with the widow. The work was analyzed with ultraviolet light and does not present any alteration in the pictorial layer, some cracks can be seen due to the passage of time. The table will be accompanied by a notarized document of said expanded declaration, duly registered.
