Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1973). "Visage no. 127" ceramic plate, conceived in 1963. Edition 93 of 150. Marked and numbered "No 127 / Edition Picasso / 93/150 / Madoura" on underside. A white earthenware plate with decoration of a sun-like visage in hues of black and forest green, encircled by a black border that lines the outer edge of the dish. The design features Picasso's bold, expressive facial imagery surrounded by a dashed, sunburst border. Among the rare limited edition ceramics Picasso created with the Madoura pottery workshop in Vallauris in the South of France! Size: 10.125" in diameter (25.7 cm)

Consistent with number 478 in Alain Ramie's "Picasso, Catalogue of the Edited Ceramic Works, 1947-1971" (Paris: 1988).

Pablo Picasso collaborated with the Madoura pottery studio to create ceramic works for almost 25 years. Georges and Suzanne Ramie founded the Madoura Pottery studio in Vallauris, France. The Ramies are probably best known for their wonderful collaborations with Picasso which resulted in an impressive oeuvre of Picasso ceramics. The Madoura pottery studio (Madoura being an acronym for MAison + DOUly (Suzanne's maiden name) + Ramie) opened in an abandoned factory building on April 29th, 1938. Picasso first discovered the Madoura workshop in 1946 and from then on maintained a 24-year collaboration, creating works inspired by his sketches.

Other editions of "Visage No. 127" have sold for $6,250.00 at Sotheby's New York as lot 198 on October 27, 2016 and for $8,190 at Christie's New York as lot 13 on November 13, 2023 (Online Auction 22084).
