Business Meeting by William Gropper, Circa 1960. Original Lithograph signed in pencil by the artist and marked Artist Proof. William Gropper (New York, 1897 - 1977) was one of America's great satirical cartoonist and social artist. William Gropper studied painting and printmaking under George Bellows and Robert Henri at the Ferrer School in San Francisco. He also studied at he National Academy of Design and at the New York School of Fine Art. He was first employed as a staff artist for The New York Tribune (1919-21) and later for the New York World (1925-27). During this time Gropper also contributed many drawings to Leftist publications such as The Revolutionary Age, The Liberator, The New Masses, The Worker, and Morgen Freiheit. By the mid 1920's William Gropper had established himself as a major satirical artist. During the following decades William Gropper achieved a fine reputation around the world. Today, many international institutions include examples of his paintings and prints in their collections. The Museum of Modern Art in New York lists over thirty of Gropper's etchings and lithographs in its permanent collection.
