First edition illustrated by 74 beautiful anatomical engravings.Thomas Bartholin, known in Latin as Thomas Bartholinus was a Danish anatomist famous for being the first to completely describe the human lymphatic system.Caspar Bartholin the Elder published the first collected anatomical work in 1611. This work was later expanded, illustrated, and revised by his son Thomas, becoming the standard reference on anatomy; his son particularly added updates on William Harvey's theory of blood circulation and the lymphatic system.A student of Johann Vesling, during his stay in Padua, in March 1642 he was one of the students who witnessed the discovery of the pancreatic duct made by Johann Georg Wirsung. Belonging to the Dutch school of anatomy, Thomas Bartholin supported the theory of blood circulation of the English doctor William Harvey. He taught at the University of Copenhagen and was physician to King Christian V.
