Description

Often depicted as the “king of the jungle”, it has been used as a symbol of royalty, from many ancient civilizations from: Pre-Egyptian, Byzantine, Roman, Greek, Middle Eastern, Indian, Chinese, and even currently as the central depiction of English and French heraldry.
Once found in Africa, Eurasia, India, and in the America’s, as far down as Peru, the wild lions can now only be found in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, and an endangered remnant population in India.
