A large Chinese enameled and underglaze blue-decorated "Nine Dragons vase", late Qing to Republic period 九龍紋斗彩大龍瓶 晚清至民國
Provenance
Of unusual combination of enamel and cobalt blue decoration, the vase lavishly decorated with nine dragons floating among crashing waves and rocks, each distinguished five-clawed dragon decorated in unique form and color, particularly those partially hidden in the waves, a band of cobalt blue eight Buddhist treasures adjacent to floral and foliate motifs at the shoulder, all beneath colorful lappets, underside bears an apocryphal Qianlong mark.

Gift to Harold Bender (Philadelphia, 1899-2003) prior to WWII, from a colleague who had acquired the vase in China
