Dr. Sharon E Sutton is a professor of architecture and urban design, adjunct professor of social work, and director of the Center for Environment Education and Design Studies at the University of Washington.
Her education initially was in music, studying the French horn, working as a professional musician in New York City for the original cast of Man of La Mancha. Sutton then enrolled in Parsons School of Design and then Columbia University where she earned MArch. in 1973. Receiving her MA in psychology from Hunter College, then in 1982, received her M.Phil and Ph.D. in psychology from the City University of New York.
Sutton?s research focus is community-based participatory and design, with an emphasis on low-income and minority youth along with other disenfranchised populations.
Sutton is also a noted print maker and collagist, her art being exhibited and collected by galleries and museums, business enterprises, colleges, and universities, while also being part of the Robert Blackburn Collection at the Library of Congress.
