This hand-coloured engraving of a Even-tailed Amethystine Hummingbird or Trochilus orthura is from The Natural History of Humming Birds Part 2 of The Naturalist's Library by Sir William Jardine, Bart and engraved by WH Lizars, Edinburgh 1833. This engraving is from the first edition.Jardine made natural history available to all levels of Victorian society by editing and issuing the hugely popular forty volumes of The Naturalist's Library (1833-1843).The Natural History of Humming Birds was issued in two parts, being Volumes VI & VII of The Naturalist’s Library series. Many of the hummingbirds illustrated in this work were of life size.Each print measures approximately 4in x 6.5in (10cm x 15.5cm)

Condition

The print is in excellent condition but with occasional spotting - please inspect the image carefully as it is very accurate.
