Antique Chinese Hat, Headband and Purse. Including: Yi Silver Embroidered Cockscomb Hat, China, Early-Mid 20th C. Cut out of a hard fabric and decorated with thousands of small silver beads, polychromatic silk embroidery, and gold ribbon. The inside is lined with cotton. The cockscomb hat is worn by Yi girls from the age of three until they are married, with the larger curved shape facing forward, hovering over the wearer's forehead. Size: 11.5'' x 5'' (29 x 13 cm). Together with a Peranakan (Straits Chinese) Beaded Headband, and 19th C. Chinese embroidered purse. An oval pouch of orange silk embroidered in Peking knot (or the Forbidden Stitch, which was outlawed because it made its practitioners go blind). The motif is a foo dog with two sequins for eyes. Size: 7' x 5'' (17 x 13 cm).
