Description
Alexandre Nikolaevich Samokhvalov, Russian, Soviet era, 1894 to 1971, charcoal painting on paper depicting a portrait of a woman, 1929. Signed with initials and dated, lower right. Matted. Alexander Nikolayevich Samokhvalov was a Soviet Russian painter, watercolorist, graphic artist, illustrator, art teacher and Honored Arts Worker of the RSFSR, who lived and worked in Leningrad. He is co founder as well as a respected member of the Leningrad school of painting and the Leningrad Union of Artists. In 1925 and 1927 he was awarded with the Gold Medal at the international Paris Art Fair, in 1937 he won the Grand Prix at the Paris World Exhibition. In addition, Samokhvalov worked as a set and costume designer at the Bolshoi Theater. His works are nowadays included in prestigious collections like the Tretyakov Gallery and the Russian Museum, St. Petersburg. One of a kind artwork.
