Darke County, OH, ca. 1864
McClellan Democratic Electoral Ticket From Darke County, OH
Ticket/Invitation
A Democratic presidential ticket from the state of Ohio listing George B. McClellan for President and George H. Fendleton for Vice President, followed by a list of 21 electors. Measuring 3" x 9.75", Darke County, OH, ca. 1864. At top, the original location of Athens County has been crossed out in pencil and replaced with "Darke". Features an engraved circular portrait of McClellan, with a quote below from his letter of acceptance as the Democratic nominee: "The Union must be preserved at all hazards." Exhibits one small pin hole at middle as a result of counting. With expected creasing and age toning to rest; light pencil docketing on verso reading: "Darke Co.". Else, very good.
Ohio was won by the National Union Party candidate, incumbent President Abraham Lincoln, who won the state with 56.37% of the popular vote. The Democratic Party candidate, George B. McClellan, garnered 43.63% of the popular vote. McClellan, a pro-War Democrat, was nominated for president over the Copperhead Thomas H. Seymour. Pendleton, a close associate of the Copperhead Clement Vallandigham, balanced the ticket, since he was known for having strongly opposed the Union war effort.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
