T. Williams Signs W.H. Stationery..."J.F.K.... a man without a moment to spare... with one crisis after another." Re: Baseball Greats!
TLS
Truly Unique! TLS, 8" x 10", Washington D.C., September 19, 1963, written on White House Stationery by the Special Assistant in the Kennedy White House David Powers to Mr. Jordan Ramin of the Ted Williams Club of America. Powers reacts to Ramin's offer to be included on Ted Williams mailing list and he goes on to discuss the many crisis at the Kennedy White House and some of the best MLB players of all time. A truly unique piece sent just days after Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech. In fine condition, slight toning, boldly signed by both Powers and Williams with a PSA hologram on verso. Accompanied by a LOA from PSA.
In full:
"Dear Jordan:
Please pardon my delay in answering your letter. Our President is setting such a terrific pace that all members of the staff are working day and night just trying to keep abreast of him. J.F.K. is literally a man without a moment to spare as he struggles with one crisis after another.
I would like very much to be put on your mailing list to receive a copy of Ted's column. I am greatly interested in this film 'Batting with Ted Williams'.
Eddie Collins, the Hall of Famer who discovered Ted, once said, 'All Ted lives for is his next turn at bat'. As a great Williams fan over the years, I always looked forward to Ted's each turn at bat. Not since Ty Cobb has baseball had a greater student of batting. Ted was the first 400 hitter since Bill Terry in 1930 and the first American Leaguer since Harry Heilmann in 1923.
Ted's greatness over the years is shown by his selection of the following Major League All Stars:
1939
Medwick L.F.
Joe DiMaggio C.F.
Williams R.F.
1957
Williams L.F.
Mantle C.F.
Mays R.F.
I hope these few lines find you healthy and happy.
Best always,
Dave Powers"
