A sepia toned photograph depicting Heavyweight boxer Jim Jeffries (1875-1953) at far right, seated with three other men on a bench, all holding sheet music. Measuring 6.5" x 8.5", Los Angeles, CA, ca. 1911. Signed by all four as "Jas. J. Jeffries"; "Jack Jeffries" (his brother); "Happy Jack Gardner"; and "Barney Oldfield". Docketed along bottom edge in a different hand, "The Fish Quartetee, Compliments, Jake Fogel. Los Angeles." Moderate wearing, including surface wrinkling, darkened toning, and scattered markings throughout; creasing present to all four corners. Attractive presentation overall.

James Jackson Jeffries was an American professional boxer and world heavyweight champion most known for his enormous strength and stamina. He was later dubbed the "Great White Hope" by writer Jack London in his attempt to win the heavyweight crown from African American champion Jack Johnson. Jeffries, who came out of retirement for the bout, was beaten by Johnson in the 15th round in what was billed as the Fight of the Century held on July 4, 1910.
