It is signed by the artist at lower left and dated 1644 or maybe 1649. The painting is a portrait of a nobleman in an interior with his greyhound dog. Many paintings that have been sold by Van Ravesteyn are simple bust portraits with dark backgrounds. This one is more like the best examples with incredible detail in the elaborate clothing, elemnts of the interior and landscape beyond, and an incredible job on the dog. The painting does have some minor restoration in the face mostly in the area adjacent to the sitters right eye. Overall, especially for a painting of this age, the condition is excellent. The original brushstrokes and crackle are largely intact through the entire surface.
