DESCRIPTION: Vintage mid-century modern Scandinavian design Ingrid Atterberg for Upsala-Ekeby ceramic bowl, made in Sweden in 1953.

Ekeby and Ingrid Atterberg markings on the unglazed brown base. Model 2128 from the Negro series. Delicate matte brown earthenware with white vitreous glazed incised cuts in concentric circles. The underside is also glazed. Large rounded almond form.

Ingrid Atterberg (Swedish, 1920-2008) is one of the representatives of the Swedish ceramic design of the 20th century. She was one of the leading designers for the Upsala-Ekeby in the 1950s and 1960s. Her fascination with exotic cultures influenced the form, decor, and naming of the series. Ingrid’s "Negro" series from 1953 was produced with manganese clay with striking carved white decor.
