Hippolyte Lecomte (1781 - 1857). The Eagle and the Owl. Antique lithograph on wove paper after the original by master lithographer Godefroy Engelmann (1788 - 1839). Year: 1818. Signature: Signed in the plate. Dimensions: Image Size 7 1/2 x 9 5/8 inches. Framed dimensions: Approximately 15 x 17 1/8 inches. Framing: This piece has been professionally matted and framed using all new materials. The Eagle and Owl agreed to no harm each others babies. Owl described hers as charming little dears. Eagle came upon ugly babies and ate them. The Owl lied. The moral or lesson to be learned from the fable is of course, don't lie.
