Description
Silver guarter after 1964 not produced with silver.The original quarter, first minted in 1796, contained 100% silver and weighed around 6.74 grams. However, in 1837, due to fluctuating silver prices, the U.S. Mint reduced the silver content in quarters to 90%, which decreased its weight to 6.25 grams.All 25-cent coins manufactured since 1965 have outer layers of 75 percent copper and 25 percent nickel bonded to a core of pure copper. They weigh 5.67 grams with a tolerance of ?? 0.227 grams and a diameter of 24.26 millimeters.
