Description
1910, Ohio. Stock certificate for 5 shares of the Harding Publishing Company. Orange/Black. Vignette of a winged allegorical figure holding a lightbulb above her head, flanked by additional allegorical figures. Litho. Signed as president by WARREN G. HARDING (1865-1923). Twenty-ninth President. Harding earned his fortune when he bought and revived the dying Marion Star. He served as Ohio lieutenant governor and twice lost in races for governor. He was elected Senator in 1914 and President in 1920. . Stock certificates signed by presidents are rather scarce and this being Harding’s own publishing company represents an interesting view into the future president’s activity prior to being elected to office. Some light trace of a crayon cancellation at signature which remains bold. Extremely fine.
