Douglas Fairbanks' "Don Q, Son of Zorro" Black Silk Velvet Cape - This black silk velvet cape was worn by Douglas Fairbanks during the filming of the 1925 American silent romantic adventure film, Don Q, Son of Zorro. The film was the sequel to the 1920 silent film, The Mark of Zorro, and was rated by the New York Times as one of its top ten movies of 1925. Fairbanks both produced the film and starred as its lead character. Douglas Fairbanks was an American actor, screenwriter, director, and producer, active from 1899 to 1934. He was a founding member of United Artists, and a founding member of The Motion Picture Academy and hosted the 1st Academy Awards in 1929. He married Mary Pickford in 1920 and the couple became known as "Hollywood Royalty" and Fairbanks as "The King of Hollywood". Fairbanks was considered one of the biggest stars in Hollywood during the 1910s and 1920s prior to the advent of sound films. This cape bears an interior United Costumers label with "DG Fairbanks" handwritten along with the sizing information. This lot will include a copy of a previous purchase invoice dated October 20, 1994, listing the piece as "Douglas Fairbanks Black Silk Velvet Cape". Please note: This cape is in remarkable condition for its nearly 100 year age. The red satin interior lining is torn and could use repair.
