Aboard the Fighting Cruiser Brooklyn looking aft from the Forward Bridge

The Spanish-American War Cruiser Brooklyn was a steam-powered protected cruiser that served in the United States Navy during the Spanish-American War. She was named after the city of Brooklyn, New York, and was the third vessel to bear that name in the US Navy.

The Brooklyn was commissioned in 1896 and was part of the US Asiatic Squadron during the Spanish-American War. She played a key role in the Battle of Manila Bay on May 1, 1898, where she was the flagship of Commodore George Dewey, the commander of the US Asiatic Squadron. During the battle, the Brooklyn was involved in a chase of the Spanish flagship, the Reina Cristina, and also engaged several other Spanish vessels.

The Brooklyn was armed with eight 8-inch guns, twelve 5-inch guns, six 6-pounder guns, and four 1-pounder guns. She was also equipped with torpedoes and had a top speed of 20 knots.

After the war, the Brooklyn was involved in several other actions, including the Boxer Rebellion in China in 1900. She was decommissioned in 1910 and was subsequently sold for scrap.
