BREATHLESS
Full Bleed French Moyenne (23.5" x 30.5"); Photo Style
Very Fine- Folded; Artwork by Clement Hurel
UGC DA, 1960
Clement Hurel was a well-known French poster artist who produced two styles of posters for this famous film. The photo style is exceptional in its forward design and layout. It has, in many ways, been a scarce poster for collectors.
This French Moyenne has pinholes in the corners and slight chipping in the lower corners. Additionally, a faint extra fold is mirrored on the top and bottom. There is creasing around the fold lines and a diagonal crease on the corners.
Only a handful of movies can be considered as defining moments in cinema history, and one of them is the unexpected hit from 1960. Jean-Luc Godard's debut film introduced a whole new style of filmmaking that went against conventional norms. This style included techniques such as broken eye-line matches, improvised dialogue, no unnecessary editing, and total location shooting. These elements were the hallmarks of the Nouvelle Vague (French New Wave) movement.
This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, April 18th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on April 19th.
