Letter signed by the 5 American delegates who concluded and signed the Treaty of Ghent with England, which ended the War of 1812: John Quincy Adams, J.A. Bayard, Henry Clay, Jonathan Russell, and Albert Gallatin. 1 full page, 4to. Ghent, September 16, 1814, to Captain Lloyd Jones of the U.S. Ship Neptune, Antwerp. Complete with integral address-leaf and wax seal. The delegates inform Captain Jones that he has been given a credit with Messrs Baring, Brothers & Co. of London "for a sum not exceeding One thousand pounds Sterling. You may therefore negotiate your Bills on them...& we rely on your judgement & economy, that no expenses will be incurred, but such as are necessary for the support of the Crew, and for the safety of the Ship under your command..." Handsomely preserved, with a remarkable assemblage of signatures. Scattered stains and age toning with a 1 - 1/2" piece missing from reverse. Clear and legible writing. Former Dr. John K.
