Eternity.

Color screenprint on 320 gram Coventry Rag paper, 1996. 570x584 mm; 23½x23 inches, full margins. Artist's proof. Signed and inscribed "AP" in pencil, lower margin. Printed and published by Gary Lichtenstein Editions, North Adams, MA.

Painter and master printmaker Gary Lichtenstein demonstrates the properties of light absorption and reflection, specifically regarding the visual impact of color. Inspired by artists such as Robert Motherwell and Helen Frankenthaler, Lichtenstein creates canvases which have frequently been described as ethereal. In addition, Lichtenstein has collaborated with over one hundred artists during his 49-year career. Rock & roll poster artist Bob Fried was one of Lichtenstein's earliest influences and one of his greatest. A pioneer of silkscreen production, Fried was among the first to use the medium to produce original works of art; his psychedelic, 1960s poster art was embraced by rock bands such as Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, Santana, Genesis, and Steppenwolf. By the time he met Lichtenstein, Fried had moved away from the rock art genre and was focused exclusively on the creation of original silkscreen prints and sculptures.

In 2013, Gary Lichtenstein Editions moved to MANA Contemporary in Jersey City, NJ. The new studio allowed Lichtenstein to further expand the roster of artists with whom he works; including Marina Abramovich, Cey Adams, Janette Beckman, CRASH, DAZE, Oasa DuVerney, Ron English, Futura, Bob Gruen, Tucker Nichols, Eric Orr, Duane Slick and Vincent Valdez. During the summer of 2023, Gary Lichtenstein Editions relocated to the campus of MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA.

Lichtenstein's work has been shown and collected by, among others, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield, CT, New York's Museum of Modern Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian, the Chicago Art Institute, the Butler Institute of American Art, the College of Art & Architecture at the University of Tennessee, the Silvermine Arts Center, the International Print Center NYC. Recent exhibitions include Gary Lichtenstein: 35 Years of Screenprinting, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, 2010, andGary Lichtenstein: Painter and Master Printer, The Butler Museum of American Art, 2023.
