This boatstone is red granite that has been shaped and polished at 3.5 in. /89 mm. Boatstones were made to add mass to the atlatl shaft, to increase throwing distance or increasing impact velocity. An extremely rare find. The stone shows no signs or grooves for mounting but interestingly has a concave bottom surface. Marked as from Lyon County, Kansas in 1966. From the Bracken collection. Please see photos for details. (ref. Oklahoma Indian Artifacts, Bell, 1980, pp. 46,47). Kansas Gary Bracken Collection
