Assay Office of the Consolidated California and Virginia Mining Company, Report of Ore Assays, Virginia, Nev. Jan. 13th, 1894. For Savage Mine ore deposited by RP Keating. Assay done by FE Fielding. Samples are from the Savage Battery and Savage Settler. They were taking samples out of the stamps before mercury ("head assay") to compare with results later in the process. A useful way to test how the efficiency of the mill. 5.5 x 8" The Consolidated Virginia was the largest producer on the Comstock, being the site of the historic Bonanza discovery. The California mine was adjacent to it and was the second largest producer. The two mines consolidated in the 1880s and mining continued to the 1940s. Virginia City Nevada Virginia City Nevada 1894
