Description
Equinox, oil on canvas, 12 x 48, signed lower right: F Smith, Heartland Security Insurance Group Collection curated by Eugenia “Jeannie” Hibbs (February 21, 1938 – January 8, 2022). Lots: 151 – 228. Jeannie Hibbs had an eye for beautiful art. In the late 1970s, she co-founded The Willows Art Gallery in Tyler, where she decorated the mansions and vacation homes of clients all over the world. She also met and represented many of today’s collectible artists. In the early 2000’s, she became the curator for Heartland Security Insurance Group’s corporate art collection, where, over the course of two decades, she selected over 400 pieces of Early Texas Art to beautify office locations across the state for the business she co-founded with her husband. Jeannie strongly believed that art and sculpture should have a positive impact on the morale and attitude of everyone in the office. She was very particular about color, and subject matter, wanting art to contribute to a peaceful environment. For educational purposes, each piece was accompanied by a plaque that described the artist’s home, and history. Jeannie also loved to share art with others, believing that “good art never goes out of style, or favor.” Pieces of Heartland’s collection have hung in the Dallas Museum of Art, the Witte Museum, Tyler Museum of Art, Stark Museum of Art, The Grace Museum, and the Panhandle- Plains Historical Museum. She received an award from the Center for the Advancement and Study of Early Texas Art (CASETA) in 2022 for her efforts to promote Early Texas Art. Due to office downsizing, as a result of work-from-home, these are the first pieces to be offered from the extensive corporate collection.
