Ca. AD 200 - 300 .
An extremely fine bronze Roman ladle featuring a carinated bowl and a long square-sectioned handle. The Flat-section handle is embellished with a hooked ibex-head finial naturalistically rendered to display its eyes, mouth, ears and horns. For similar see: John W. Hayes, Greek, Roman and Related Metalware in the Royal Ontario Museum. Ladles of this design were common in bronze as well as silver and were produced from the 4th Century B.C. onwards.
