Description
Worcester, England. 1837. Rosewood case. Allen & Thurber was a well-known maker of pepperbox pistols. The patent date is 1837. They were developed by Ethan Allen in the 1830s. The company was in Worcester from 1847 until going out of business in 1871. Marked, "Allen & Thurber/Worcester/Patented 1837/Cast Steel", on the barrel and "Allen's Patent", on strike. Box: 2.25" x 9.75" x 6.75". Pistol: 3.5" x 8.5" x 1.5" Dia. From the Darryl Silver Collection.
Condition
Case not original to the pistol. The case originally held drawing instruments or instruments of a similar nature and at some time was divided with partitions to hold the pistol and accoutrements. The powder flask and bullet mould are in poor condition.
